Zafra in Tamaulipas

This number begins with three traditional songs from the sowing fields and performed by the town’s youth to celebrate the harvest of the sugar cane. As the young men step aside, the women perform the Fertility Dance, a homage dance to the gods and Earth for the abundant harvest. Finally, they lead to the cheerful Picota where men and women celebrate together for the fruits received.
