Sones Campesinos de Veracruz

Among the different activities that characterize the Jarocho culture is the Fandango. This dance expression is appreciated by those from an extensive part of this region, from the northern region of Sotavento to the Southern state limit of Veracruz, Oaxaca and Tabasco. The fandango adapts characteristics according to the personality of its inhabitants, and gives way to the creation of different styles. The Son Jarocho is strongly related to the Fandango at popular festivities. Participants meet around a Tarima - a wooden platform - along with the musicians, singers, dancers, and onlookers. While the musicians play their string instruments, dancers perform on the Tarima to celebrate music, song, and dance.
