Semana Santa en Chihuahua
After a week
of preparation for the festivities to come, on the eve of Holy Thursday,
the crowds disperse and listen in the darkness to the mysterious sound of
beating drums. The Siriame governor of the Tarahumaras, gives the order to
commence the dances starting with the ritual towards the four cardinal
points, giving way to the festivities. Women are allowed to participate on
Thursday and Friday only, so their participation consists of a procession
at the altar. The men make use of their strength and ability to dance for
30 continuous hours during which they offer the dance Duburi dedicated to
the Sun and the mother Moon for a newborn child, to bless their harvest
and for the health of their family.
