Although the origins of these dances remain unclear, it is believed they come from the highlands of the state of Puebla and the Totonaca region. Considered one of the most colorfUl dances of our culture, the headdress symbolizes the passage of time, as well as imitation of the colorful bright feathers of the sacred bird, Quetzal. It is usually performed by forming the outline of a cross,reminiscent of the four cardinal points.
