Guerrero
From the
South Pacific Coast of Mexico from the state of Guerrero, this region is
strongly influenced by Spanish Gypsies and African natives left behind by
the Spaniards. The sensual hip movements gave way into their dances. The
commercial connection that this coastal state offered between Mexico &
South American countries, such as Chile, Argentina, and Peru, brought
together a mix of traditions that evolved into new ways of life. Religious
authorities, at one time, forbade these dances that are cheerful, and
filled with naughty and sensual movements imitating movements of birds and
animals.
La Costa Chica In this region,
dances are performed to song called (Chilena). The coastal music is
distinctive from other rhythms played in other parts of the state. The
music is stronger and more dynamic, elements that reveal influences from
African population established during 17th and 18th Century and music
introduced by sailors and adventurers coming from Peru and Chile. The
music of the Son de la Chilena is intimately linked to social dances and
always expresses the flirtation between men and women when performing on a
wooden platform.
Tierra Caliente "Los Gustos" also
called "Sones de Tierra Caliente" meaning Songs of Hot Land, are a
cheerful musical tradition that was originated after the 18th century.
These rhythms emerged from songs called “Sonecito de la Tierra,” meaning
Little Songs of the Land, evolving from Spanish songs into songs splashed
with Mexican flavor.
