Danza de Matlachines Chichimeca

This dance has special significance for the Artistic Director, Zenon Barron.  It is a tradition that has existed in his family beginning with his Grandfather and has been passed on to the following generations.  To this day, it remains a cultural legacy in his family.  The Matlachines Dance of the state of Guanajuato takes on a war and religious meaning inside the Chichimeca community.  It is performed during the local festivities to honor the saint, Señor de la Morita.  The participants offer their dance in exchange for miracles granted within their family.  A fight between good and evil takes place where the devil instigates the dancers to fight among themselves.
